Resources Available to Madison Residents

Madison has the following resources for basic necessities.  If your specific need is not included here, call the Welfare Director at 696-3971.

Assisted Living.  Contact Maine Senior Guidance for details 

Public Transportation:  The Somerset Explorer bus service is operated by KVCAP and makes stops in Madison three days a week year round and 5 days a week in the summer months.  Click here to see the schedule of stops.

American Red Cross:  Call 696-5389

Catholic Charities:  Helps with various services and needs, call 1-800-660-5231.

Emergency Assistance Program:  Run through DHS, this program is for low income households with children under the age of 21.  Contact 474-4800.

Emergency Hotline:  Call 2-1-1 or go online at 211maine.org and get connected to a wide range of health and social services.

Family Violence Project:  Call 474-8860 or 24-hour Toll-free Hotline 1-877-890-7788.

Food Cupboard:  People Who Care Food Cupboard is located on Lakewood Road at the Log Cabin Church and is open on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Fuel Assistance:  There are currently two resources for fuel:  1) KVCAP Energy Assistance Program call 474-8487; and 2) 100 gallons of fuel available to low income families by calling 1-877-JOE-4-OIL.

Housing:  Maine State Housing Authority, call toll free 1-866-357-4853 or click here for an application for Section 8 and Subsidized Housing.

Southern Kennebec Child Development Corporation:  1-800-525-2229

Serving Kennebec and Somerset counties, Child Care Options assists families with the growing demand for affordable and accessible child care.  Visit them on the web at  http://www.ccordc.org/

Early Childhood Development Public Engagement Campaign, go online to www.bornlearning.org

Healthy Maine Partnership of Greater Waterville.  Mission:  to support and encourage policy and environmental changes, education and activities that promote physical activity, good nutrition, and the reduction of tobacco use.  www.healthyhorizonshmp.org.

Volunteer Maine.  An interactive web-based program to assist nonprofits with the recruitment of volunteers at www.volunteermaine.org.

Pinewood Apartments is a sixteen unit development of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments located off Jones Street and convenient to downtown and shopping. Rent is based on 30% of adjusted income and income limits do apply. This is housing for families, including elderly, disabled and handicapped. Other income eligible single individuals or couples may apply. Low waiting list.

One Madison Avenue has MSHA/HUD Section 8 program administration. The Section 8 Existing Housing Certificate/Voucher program is a tenant-based subsidy program, which serves very low income housing, preference for elderly, disabled and handicapped individuals.
