Learn About Our Cozy Little Town.....

Situated along the shores of the Kennebec River in the foothills of Maine's Western mountains,  Madison was incorporated on March 7, 1804 as Maine's 150th town.  For more information on the history of Madison, see Explore Our Town.

Lakewood Theatre is set along the shore of Lake Wesserunsett in east Madison.  This seasonal theatre, which hosted plays that "bore the stamp of Broadway approval" back in the mid-1920's, continues to be an important part of Madison's culture.   To view summer performances, visit 2008 summer season opening .

Wesserunsett Lake provides ample recreation for residents and visitors alike.  From boating and

swimming to fishing (both ice and open water), the lake continues to be a attraction for outdoor recreation.

River rafting is rapidly sought after among adventure seekers.  For class IV and V rapids along the Kennebec River visit Adventure Bound,   North Country Rivers ,  or  Maine Whitewater.
